Murder suspect arrested in Vermillion this afternoon

A man suspected of murder in Virginia was arrested this afternoon in Vermillion according to a news release by the Vermillion Police Department.

Edward Denoyer, age 25, is suspected of killing two people in Virginia. He was arrested by the U.S. Marshall Service, with assistance by the SD Division of Criminal Investigation, the SD Highway Patrol, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and the Vermillion Police Department.

The Vermillion Police Department said extreme caution was used during the operation including evacuating some neighbors and contacting Vermillion schools. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

According to a news story on Sept. 22 by CBS television station WDBJ of Roanoke, VA, Denoyer has an active warrant for second-degree murder regarding the homicides of Sept. 17, 2023 in that city.

Earlier this month Roanoke Police released an updated photo of Denoyer, shown below and had urged the public not to approach him, as he was considered armed and dangerous. He was being sought for the killings of Crystal Brown and one other person, unidentified by police.

Officers responded at 10:45 p.m. the night of the shooting for reports of shots fired. Police found a woman lying outside a home with a gunshot wound, and found a man in a parked car outside of the same home with a gunshot wound. Both were pronounced dead.

Denoyer is being held in the Clay County Jail on a murder warrant until an initial court appearance and extradition to the state of Virginia.
