Two arrested following disturbance at Hawarden hospital

Saye Paye
Katie Saldana

Two people were arrested after an altercation at the Hawarden Hospital early Monday morning. On June 17 at 2:46 a.m. the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office arrested Saye Paye, age 25, of Sioux Falls, SD, and Katie Saldana, age 20, of Alcester, SD. The arrests came following a 911 call reporting a fight at the hospital. During the emergency call arguing and then fighting could be heard in the background.

When deputies arrived they discovered Paye and Saldana were fighting over their child’s car seat in the parking lot. Further investigation revealed Saldana was holding a three-month-old child in her arms when the fight began. A nurse was able to safely remove the child from Saldana’s arms during the disturbance.

No injuries were reported.

Saldana and Paye were transported to the Sioux County Jail where they were charged with child endangerment and disorderly conduct. They were booked into the Sioux County Jail. Both have since been released after posting a $2,000 bond each.
