Three-vehicle accident near Kingsley sends two to hospital in serious condition

A three-vehicle accident involving a SUV, a 4wd pickup and a semi-truck occurred Wednesday, Aug. 7 about 12:45 p.m. between Kingsley and Moville in Woodbury County.

The Iowa State Patrol reported the accident happened at the intersection of IA 141 and 110th St. According to the accident report the SUV, a 2008 Lexus RX 350, driven by Deiler Reyes Pena, 31, of Storm Lake, Iowa was eastbound on 110th St. and failed to yield to traffic from the stop sign at IA 140. He struck the left side of a 2018 GMC pickup driven by Corey Lias, 42 of Sioux City who was northbound on 140. A 1999 Peterbilt 377 semi-truck driven by Steven French, 72 of Moville was also northbound on IA 140 behind the pickup and struck the left side of the Lexus.

The driver of the Lexus was taken by helicopter to Mercy 1 Medical Center in Sioux City with serious injuries. A passenger in the Lexus, Yanisloeydis Perez Hechavarria, 29 of Storm Lake also received serious injuries. He was transported to Mercy One Medical Center by the Kingsley EMS. Both the passenger and driver were wearing seatbelts.

There were no other injuries at the scene requiring hospitalization reported.

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted at the scene by officers from the Woodbury County Sheriff’s office and employees from the Iowa Department of Transportation.
