The Tea Area School District Board of Education announced Monday the appointment of Dr. Tonia Warzecha as their new Superintendent. She has been superintendent at Dakota Valley Schools the last four years.
A news release from the Tea Area Schools stated, “Warzecha brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success in education. With over a decade of leadership experience, including the last four years as Superintendent of Dakota Valley, she has demonstrated a strong commitment to advancing student achievement, supporting educators, and building meaningful school-community relationships.”
Dr. Warzecha holds a Doctor of Education Degree, a Specialist Degree in Education Administration, and a Master’s Degree in Education Administration, all from the University of South Dakota. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Southwest Minnesota State University.
She has a strong history with the Tea Area School District, where she served as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction for seven years, and an Assistant Principal for three years. Dr. Warzecha has 16 years of elementary experience, teaching at Tea Area Legacy Elementary and in Mankato, Minn. Warzecha’s work has earned her numerous accolades, including being named the South Dakota Curriculum Leader of the Year in 2021 and the Project Lead the Way Teacher of the Year in 2015.
Warzecha will move into the position currently held by Dr. Jennifer Lowery, who gave her resignation to the Tea Area School District Board of Education at their regular meeting on Feb. 10.

Dr. Lowery was hired by the Harrisburg, S.D. School District as the Superintendent for the 2024-25 school year. She will officially begin her new role on July 1, following the retirement of Tim Graf, who has served the district with dedication since 2019.
Warzecha will likely assume her new position as Superintendent of the Tea Area School District on July 1 as well.
Known for her student-first approach and her expertise in curriculum and instruction, Dr. Warzecha says she is committed to fostering a learning environment that supports the academic and personal growth of every student. Her leadership philosophy emphasizes collaboration, innovation, and a deep understanding of the needs of both students and staff.
Dr. Warzecha joined the Dakota Valley team as Superintendent of Schools on July 1, 2021. She served as the 4th Superintendent of Dakota Valley in its 30 years of history.
