A 51-year-old man from Le Mars, Iowa, Lance Jerry Rus, was arrested on October 16 for possession of methamphetamine during a motorist assist in Union County. Observed acting nervously, he admitted to having meth in a tin after a search by law enforcement. He was indicted and has a court appearance scheduled. State health officials are investigating a mysterious series of suspected overdose cases linked to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, including two fatalities. At least 12 cases with unusual symptoms, such as seizures and shallow breathing, were reported. Despite extensive toxicology tests, no common substance was identified. The Iowa Board of Nursing has revoked the license of a Cedar Rapids hospital nurse accused of repeatedly showing up for work while intoxicated.
