Last Thursday turned out to be the day from hell for Matt Vanderpool. It’s hard to know whether or not Matt Vanderpool had a smile on his face in a minute or two before 6:30 a.m. Or what his thoughts were. Vanderpool was driving his truck and was near the corner of Alcoma and Streeter Drives. It is probably a good guess, though, the look on his face changed to a look of bewilderment or a frown when he noticed two police cruisers were following him with their lights and sirens on. The police officers had in their possession paperwork that charged Vanderpool with five different counts: rape, solicitation of a minor, abuse and neglect of a child, sexual contact with a child under the age of 16, and sexual exploitation. State-certified caregiver charged with sexual exploitation of a minor

A state-certified caregiver has been arrested and charged with sexually exploiting a minor while employed by an Iowa nursing home.

The most recent case, and the only one in which criminal charges have been filed, involves Guider’s employment at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona.

Over the past 12 months, Martell Guider, a 36-year-old male certified nursing assistant, has been the subject of complaints regarding a series of alleged incidents involving sexual impropriety at three Iowa nursing homes located in Audubon, Correctionville and Kalona. State allegedly rejected previous complaint about nursing home rape suspect

An Iowa caregiver alleges state nursing home regulators declined to investigate her complaint last spring against a man now being investigated for the alleged rape of a nursing home resident.

The female caregiver was working at Friendship Home in Audubon last April when she allegedly filed a complaint with the Iowa Department of Inspections, Appeals and Licensing about the behavior of a male coworker. Sheriff: Alleged rape of nursing home resident under investigation

The Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office says it is still investigating the alleged rape of an Iowa nursing home resident who was subsequently evicted and dumped at a homeless shelter.

It’s not clear whether the criminal investigation is focused entirely on the reported rape or includes how the resident was treated by the care facility in the days that followed the alleged incident. Continue reading Sheriff: Alleged rape of nursing home resident under investigation
