Restaurant inspection update for February

State, city and county food inspectors have cited Iowa restaurants and stores for hundreds of food-safety violations in recent weeks, including poorly cooked chicken, lack of food thermometers, unclean equipment, handling crab meat with bare hands and dirty kitchens.

The findings are reported by the Iowa Department of Inspections, Appeals and Licensing, which handles food-establishment inspections at the state level. Adventures in surgery prep

A year ago, I found myself facing surgery for a cancerous nodule on my left lung. Here is a fractured recounting of what I remember the procedure was like.

After check-in, I started to wander aimlessly down the hallway towards the emergency room until Nancy and a nurse caught up with me and escorted me to a bank of elevators. The door to one slid open and I spread my arms across the doorway and stuck my head in peering left and right into the cavernous space.

“Is there room for all of us in here?” I said in my best Boris Karloff voice to the elderly couple waiting inside for my wife and me to join them. They may have been having second thoughts about riding the cage when they saw my wide eyes and shit-eating grin on my face. Snow emergencies declared in North Sioux City and Sioux City

The National Weather Service is placed our area under a winter storm warning effective at midnight tonight. In anticipation of the storm, some Siouxland communities are declaring snow emergencies.

We are listing those snow emergencies here as they come in.

Attention car lovers & gearheads: It’s showtime, coffee and barbeque!

Hang out tomorrow, Sunday, Oct. 15th for a car show and shine, games, free food, coffee and beer. It’s the Sioux City Cars and Coffee Fall Barbeque Event with everything donated by the Midwest Euro Club and High Ground Cafe and Espresso Bar.
