I wouldn’t steer you wrong on this sleepy-looking fellow. I’m sure you’ve gone by him without even giving him much of a thought as you’ve tried to avoid the railroad tracks in Sioux City. Speaking of railroad tracks in Sioux City . . . I once read somewhere (I can’t remember where or I’d put in a reference here.) that the infamous gangster and bank robber John Dillinger once said he’d never rob a bank in Sioux City, Iowa, because there were too many railroad crossings going across the roads leading out of town. Dillinger apparently didn’t want to get trapped at a train crossing after robbing a bank in downtown Sioux City!
Anyway, where is this bovine, and where can you best view him from? This should be an easy one. You’ve got until Monday evening to put your answer in the comment box below.
Good job to three sharp-eyed Siouxland Observer readers. You really know where to look for steers/bulls in our area. In this case, it was north of the Gordon Drive Viaduct, on top of the KD Feeds Building. Our bovine friend has been there as long as I can remember — that is since I arrived to live in the area — in 2001. I love it when businesses put critters on their buildings or property.
Our three winners are, in no particular order:
- Scottb 1958
- Dennis LaBrune
- Susan Von Minden
Congratulations to all three of you guys!
Now, watch for the next Siouxland Observed, coming in the next couple of days!

Going across the viaduct!
You are correct, Dennis!
You can see him while driving across the Gordon viaduct. He’ll be on the north side.

Absolutely. Sun, rain, hail, snow. He’s always there on the KD building.
You can view this guy as you drive over the Gordon Drive viaduct near the downtown area! He’s been there for years and never gets older. I wonder what his secret is?
You are so right, Scott. I think his secret has to do with that salt lick or whatever it is that sits in front of him. But I don’t think I want to try it.
