The Siouxland County Jails house individuals arrested and charged, awaiting bond or trial. Inmates include those from Clay, Lincoln, and Union County with varying charges. Clay and Lincoln County jails provide more details on inmates than Union County, simplifying the determination of bond assignment reasons. As of July 15, 2024, the Siouxland County Jails in SE South Dakota house various individuals. The Clay County Jail contains detailed inmate information due to cooperation from the Sheriff’s Offices. The Union County Jail holds several individuals, with bond information included. The Lincoln County Jail also has numerous individuals with varied charges and bonds. Union County Sheriff’s Report: April, 2024

In April, Union County Jail saw 83 arrests and housed 23 individuals awaiting trial or serving sentences. Among the charges, DUI and theft offenses were prevalent. The Sheriff’s Office also collected $56,714.77 for the general fund in March. The month saw 262 911 calls, 3,027 admin calls, 772 jail calls, and 1,407 calls for service. Clay County Sheriff’s Office Incident Report for 3/19 – 4/13/2024

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office in South Dakota responded to various incidents, including car accidents, inmate transfers, and mental health crises. You will notice that the information provided is only a numeric total, unlike that provided from what we get from Clay County which gives call incident detail.

Union County Court: 3/25 – 4/12/2024

As the band Emerson, Lake and Palmer sang in their 1973 classic tune, Karn Evil 9:

So too, the words might be said about the regular case dispositions by our county/state judiciary system. Following are three weeks’ worth of cases that have been disposed of in the Union County courts. Clay County Sheriff’s Incident Report

The following are summaries of incidents reported to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office between Feb. 14 and March 14, 2024. 

For instance: A caller reported a stray pig and dog on a rural road near Meckling. A deputy responded to a report of a dog at a rural residence biting a bicyclist. A deputy assisted Vermillion police officers with a response to a fight outside of a downtown bar in Vermillion.

Also, the School Resource Officer investigated a report of a high school student in Vermillion having possession of a vape device in school. A caller reported suspicious activity involving two people in a car on a dead-end rural road.
