Union County Sheriff’s Report: April, 2024

In April, Union County Jail saw 83 arrests and housed 23 individuals awaiting trial or serving sentences. Among the charges, DUI and theft offenses were prevalent. The Sheriff’s Office also collected $56,714.77 for the general fund in March. The month saw 262 911 calls, 3,027 admin calls, 772 jail calls, and 1,407 calls for service. Clay County Sheriff’s Office Incident Report for 3/19 – 4/13/2024

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office in South Dakota responded to various incidents, including car accidents, inmate transfers, and mental health crises. Deputies also handled vandalism, theft, and traffic violations. They assisted with medical emergencies, investigated suspicious activity, and provided support for truant students. You will notice that the information provided is only a numeric total, unlike that provided from what we get from Clay County which gives call incident detail.

Motor vehicle accident Monday leads to arrest for drug offenses

On Monday, March 18 at 3:52 p.m., The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Sioux County Road A54B, 14 miles northwest of Rock Valley, IA.

Sharon Kerschion, age 71, from Hudson, SD, was driving a 2002 Buick Century northbound on A54 when a 38-year-old male passenger, who was experiencing a mental health condition, distracted her by grabbing the steering wheel. Kerschion lost control of the vehicle and entered the west ditch where the vehicle came to rest on railroad tracks.

Clay County Sheriff’s Incident Report

The following are summaries of incidents reported to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office between Feb. 14 and March 14, 2024. 

For instance: A caller reported a stray pig and dog on a rural road near Meckling. A deputy responded to a report of a dog at a rural residence biting a bicyclist. A deputy assisted Vermillion police officers with a response to a fight outside of a downtown bar in Vermillion.

Also, the School Resource Officer investigated a report of a high school student in Vermillion having possession of a vape device in school. A caller reported suspicious activity involving two people in a car on a dead-end rural road.

Union County Sheriff Dies

For nearly four decades, Dan Limoges dedicated himself to Union County law enforcement, with the last 33 years as sheriff.

His lifetime of service has now ended, according to the Union County Sheriff’s Office.

“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Union County Sheriff Dan Limoges,” the department posted Tuesday on its Facebook page.

Limoges, 64, died unexpectedly Tuesday at his home, according to his obituary.

During that time, Limoges worked with high-profile cases for the county in the extreme southeast corner of South Dakota. Those experiences ranged from decades-old cold cases to three Missouri River drownings in as many years. Continue reading Union County Sheriff Dies

Below is the call log of the Lincoln County, S.D. Sheriff’s Office for Jan. 21 through Jan. 27, 2024. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office serves nearly 60,000 citizens spread across Lincoln County’s 579 square miles.
